🌙 How to Use the Lunar Planting Calendar
This calendar is your companion for growing, harvesting and preparing the 12 must have herbs from the Barefoot Family Herbal Essentials Kit, guided by the natural rhythms of the moon.
Biodynamic growing works with the moon's movement through the zodiac to identify the most potent times for every garden task. When you align your sowing, tending and harvesting with these cycles, you work with nature rather than against it, and your plants will thank you for it.
Reading the Calendar
Each day is colour-coded by its biodynamic day type, based on which zodiac sign the moon is passing through:
🥕 Root days — Moon in Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Best for planting and harvesting roots, bulbs and rhizomes such as Garlic, Ginger and Echinacea root.
🌸 Flower days — Moon in Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Best for tending and harvesting flowers and aromatics — Yarrow, Calendula, Chamomile, Lavender and Rosemary.
🍃 Leaf days — Moon in Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Best for harvesting leafy herbs — Thyme, Plantain, Peppermint and Lemon Balm.
🌾 Fruit & Seed days — Moon in Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Best for harvesting seeds, berries and fruit medicines.
The Moon Phase Symbols
Each day also shows the current moon phase, which guides the energy available:
🌑 New Moon — plant seeds, set intentions
🌒🌓🌔 Waxing Moon — sow, water and nurture above-ground herbs
🌕 Full Moon — harvest above-ground herbs at their most potent
🌖🌗🌘 Waning Moon — harvest roots, prune, preserve and compost
How to Use It Day to Day

A Note on Timing
Moon signs are calculated using precise astronomical data and are the same worldwide. Depending on your timezone, a sign may shift by a day either side — so if you're close to a boundary, trust your instincts and the day before or after will serve you just as well.
